Lotus’s Malaysia
As a primarily a food business, Lotus’s Malaysia is committed to the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals (UNSDG) 12.3 that aims to halve per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer levels and reduce food losses along production and supply chains by 2030. In addition, we are driven by our commitment to end hunger and ensure access to safe and nutritious food by all people, in particular the poor and people in vulnerable situations as underlined by UNSDG 2.1. By actively reducing our food waste in our operations and channeling food surplus to underserved communities, we would be able to do our part for the environment while supporting those under the poverty line.
1,088 tonnes of food waste reduction in 2020 in operations from base year 2018 and over 145,425 families have shared access to food.
Since 2016, more than 8.91 million meals or 35,600 kilograms of food have been donated. This ongoing action brings us closer to our 2030 food waste reduction goal and has been recognized by the Ministry of Trade in the country. and Consumer Affairs (MDTCA) and Lotus Malaysia have partnered to help establish the Malaysian Food Bank Foundation. to encourage retailers and other local entrepreneurial hotels joining the project
