Charoen Pokphand Group Co., Ltd.
The project was launched by the Sustainability and Good Governance Office to address the underlying fishing problems of artisanal fisheries. We worked together with an NGO, Department of Fisheries and artisanal fisheries to find solutions by deploying artificial reefs in 4 areas with a total of 2,000 structures. A public hearing process, designing pattern and pointing location of artificial reef deployment were carried out with the artisanal fishing communities. We have requested permission for the artificial reefs deployment from the government agency which led to a long-term collaboration on marine resource enhancement with the Department of Fisheries.
As a result, Increasing artificial reefs habitat total of 2,000 structures which cover approximately 4,500 square meters. The survey shows a total of 37 species of fish and 22 species of economically important fish around the artificial reef. Artisanal fisheries have an increased capture rate of 154.76%. The artisanal fishing communities have become aware of the conservation and incorporated this concept into other activities such as crab banks and creating a marine protected area.
